This should be a great demonstration by SFDXA member, Carlos N4IS.  Our
members that have seen Carlos's presentation's have been mightily
impressed, as I have.

He has been very active in creating a VHF/UHF/SHF community here in
South Florida.

I will certainly attend.  I'm sure that many SFDXA members would enjoy
learning about the possibilities and enjoyment of operating on these bands.

We could never do this demonstration at the hospital, since this has to
be done with outdoor antennas.

I look forward to seeing our members there!

Very73,
Randy N4QV

*We have an upcoming workshop on VHF/UHF/SHF communications, Sunday
August 3rd at 1pm in the club station.*
Carlos N4IS will run a hands-on seminar demonstrating communications in
the higher frequency bands.
He plans to set up antennas and make contacts assisted by his buddies
who will be on site and remotely located.
Particular attention will be given to some inexpensive antenna systems
that make this possible.
To put it in perspective, Carlos and Eloy W4ERP made a contact across
the Gulf of America on 13cm (2.3 GHz) setting a new record at 1105 miles!
Of course, conditions were just right for the "skip" to work.
Technicians --you are also authorized to operate on these bands.
It's a great opportunity for you to make DX contacts!  In fact, there
are numerous contests in these bands -- about 45 annually per one
website's listings.
Carlos will also talk about setting up a beacon in our area (a low power
transmitter to provide signals for graphically plotting propagation) and
how it can assist in making contacts.
Those of us who attended the last membership meeting (in July) were
introduced to this with his PowerPoint presentation.
This workshop is a continuation on the subject -- but even if you didn't
make the meeting, jump-in, because Carlos will be reviewing his earlier
presentation.
Looking forward to seeing you Sunday, August 3rd.
[If weather forces a postponement, we will announce the change here and
on the club's website]
