[SFDXA] [DCARC] club call sign

The call is available to the public after 2 years. A family member may
claim it under the 2 year period. A club may obtain it also under the 2
year period with a letter to the FCC written by next of kin.

The SFDXA callsign belonged to Bob Walker K4FK. He was a friend of
Pete's and I knew him well enough to now still own his Vibroplex Bug and
Hallicrafters SX-17. After Bob passed from an illness(he was a young
man) Pete suggested the club adopt his call. The Club Members, Board and
Officers agreed. Bob's Mother wrote a letter to the FCC saying she
approved of the SFDXA receiving it. So the /"King Four Florida
Kilowatts"/ came to be. Bob was a CW operator and a good one. Also an
early member of the club and great DXer so it was a good match for the club.

On the other hand while Pete's call is well known, and a Member of a
number of clubs and arena's, the 8 becomes troublesome over time. The
members honor the call for the owners value to the club, but over time
that question always comes up. That's not a bad thing but if it is used
in contests it is a slight issue. At least when K4FK was picked the call
sign passed all the areas of identity, location, phonetics and CW
shortness and ease of sending. (That K on the end bothered me personally
at the time hi).

As a friend of Pete's for almost 40 years and I miss hearing him he
certainly would be honored and humbled(were that possible), but he
himself would bring up the 8 issue.
Respectfully,
Bill Marx W2CQ
