I am retiring a SteppIR 4 element beam that has served me well over the past 13 years and helped me to work over 330 entities in that time, and has perform well in the CQ DX Marathon scoring for the last decade or more. (Top four, World Wide)History and Condition:It is a somewhat of a 'tired' work horse as Florida Sun is hard on some materials and finishes. The fiberglass arms have been painted in the past using a 'Brightstar' Marine grade epoxy paint (Sea Foam Green), but it is in need of another paint job. There is a history of failures of certain components in the EHU namely the tape drive sprocket assembly. The plastic sprocket shaft had material problems and a basic design issue. Both are now resolved. There are four EHUs on this antenna and two or three have had sprocket failures and have been replaced either with newer design spools or a part I fabricated in my machine shop using a superior material. The EHUs are vintage, original 'grey' housing types. EHU to boom attachment is the original 'saddle' technique. The EHUs have external cable disconnects using Trailer Lighting connectors - proven to be very reliable over the years. The EHU cabling is original and should be replaced. The "Bomb" cable junction box was never used and those connections are made in an standard electrical junction box. SteppIR now offers a plug-in replacement that may be a desirable alternative. There is about 100ft of 16 conductor cable that is still serviceable. The controller is the original Fluid Motion type with the 6704 prom and 24 volt power supply. It has had a chip failure and was serviced by Dave KE5OSO, who does excellent SMD work.
It has been removed from the tower and generally disassembled. The boom has been broken down, The fiberglass poles can be collapsed for easy transport, and the EHU The price as is - $900 OBO and "local" pick-up. 'Other' delivery arrangements possible -
