There were a number of press reports last week, notably in the Wall Street
Journal and the Washington Post that identified people who participated in
the January 6 events in Washington and presumably were preparing for more,
similar activity, as using "ham radio" to coordinate activity.
The ARRL has been working to educate the press to use the term "handheld
radios" where appropriate. The FCC released the referenced warning and the
ARRL issued this overnight and emailed ll to ARRL members with an email
address:

No one is blaming amateur radio or the ARRL for civil unrest - and we would
like to keep it so by keeping the media accurate.
Be safe.
