*_SOS SOS SOS Donald Search W3AZD needs prayers……._*

Donald Search is laying in a bed at Westside Regional Medical Center. He cannot
eat on his own and he has difficulty swallowing. Several weeks of this insult to
his body has weakened him, affected his blood electrolytes and other indices of
good health. I have urged him to talk,  and Hope has as well, and I find that
other than his stuporous affect, he still recognizes people, makes wise cracks
and argues against his condition. He does not want to be bed-ridden, nor has
that which makes him human, really given up yet. Yes, he is stubborn, yes, he is
weak, but there is a glint of life that I see in this man that needs re-ignition
instead of "being given up on" as his insurance Humana Gold Plus is allegedly
doing. They propose for him to be moved to a “long term rehab” facility in West
Palm Beach or in Hollywood OR HE WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR HIS OWN CARE OUT OF HIS
OWN POCKET if he does not go.

If moved out of the vicinity, Hope has little chance of being with him and
encouraging him to better health. She is located in Tamarac in an ALF
temporarily herself. She depends on others for a ride to see Donald and her
phone does not seem to be dependable at present. There are a small group of
people who are trying to advocate for Donald and Hope but the legalities of
HIPPA laws are tying our hands.

You CAN help. One, prayer is definitely needed for both Don and the medical
situation. Two, please go to visit Don as often as you can. Be as visible as
possible to the nursing staff. A person who is cared for is less likely to fall
through the cracks in our medical system. Third, if you can, write to a
legislator and ask for them to look into this type of insurance practice. The
practice of deciding who is worthy of getting good care and those who do not,
based on what they see on an xray or the desire to make more money with giving
others short term care, is not moral.

Don is a veteran. Don is a generous soul who has given many volunteer hours of
service to his community and to amateur radio in general. He rose to the task of
service many times in his life. Now, when he is in the most need, why are the
insurance companies, hospitals and our government turning their backs on him?
Remember, today it is Don. Tomorrow it will be you or a loved one. We cannot
allow them to set this kind of precedent for our lives.

This is an appeal for compassionate interference on behalf of a friend to many.
Thank you for all you choose to do.
