Part of an ongoing discussion on another list. 

Which one will be popular with more and more new ones coming all the time? I hate to spend money on one mode only to have it get outdated. :-$
    Will one have become the standard like CW and SSB and RTTY?  Can one box decode these all or do you have to have multiple boxes. Of course all have different software.
    If you're into digital that's your thing. Just, lets play nice together!  :-):-)

Spread spectrum, which may be analog or digital in nature, is the spreading of a signal over a wide Bandwidth.

ROS is a Weak Signal sound card digital mode.[2]
JS8 is a new weak digital signal mode. The software
