I spent 6 hours up at FMC today. I got the new Icom 7600 up and running...

Secured the bottom section of Rohn 25 with a third guy of phillystran. Poured 1 gallon of roofing tar into the hole where the antenna is seated. That base is not moving.

Then I mounted a Butternut HF6V vertical on the tower section.

The rig is working well, I had several SSB QSOs and all said the audio was excellent.

I worked VP8CMH/MM near Antarctica on 17 M CW and

I sent and received FT8, and the decode was great and the signal was warbling when I listened on the monitor. I did not work anyone.

I set up the first 10 memories in the radio for the various FT8 frequencies.

I changed the hex address in Logger 32, but the computer was not talking to the radio. I think I forgot to reconnect one of the cables. The logging program did not know what band or mode.

If anyone goes up to FMC, perhaps you can figure out which cable I forgot to reconnect.

ALSO – VERY IMPORTANT:

The 75 ohm matching stub to the Butternut antenna is only RG-59. DO NOT fun more than about 300 watts into that antenna through that stub.

The tuning of the antenna is not great, and I did not climb back up the tower to change settings, however the built in tuner on the 7600 will let you get full output on all bands including 6 meters.

Making progress...
