For those of you considering implementing the free DXLab at the beginning of
the year, here's a post from Dave, AA6YQ, developer of the (free) DXLab
Suite, from the reflector, which has over 5000 members. A tremendous user resource.
The last two paragraphs are especially noteworthy.
Your award goals, equipment, etc. will likely be different than mine, but I
have many screenshots for the software and hardware that I use on my system. (IC 7851, SPE 2K_FA, and SteppIR antennas). In addition I have accumulated several Configuration scrips, and SQL search scriptsthat may be helpful.
DXLab can import directly many of the popular logging programs, e.g. DXBase, Logger32 and any program that can produce an ADIF file of the records can be imported. DXLab focus is on award tracking, and consists of several modules which do not have to be activated at one time. It is very feature rich and has a steep learning curve and it is recommendedto add modules as you gain familiarity.
I will be happy to assist anyone in some of the initial setups. For those who want to try it, I recommend following the website guide line to Down load first the LAUNCHER module, locate it on the C: drive (not in Program Directory) and use it to down load successive modules. Bring them all down, but only activate those you intend to use first e.g. DXKeeper (logging module).Other modules are - DXView, Commander, Pathfinder, and SpotCollector. These five interactive moduleswill give you command of your rig, the latest DX spots, Auto fill your log when the DX has been worked, and directuploads to LoTW, and Clublog.
There is a lot of help available from members of the DXLab reflector, including the author whose support is incredible. And it is all FREE.

Subject: [dxlab] welcome to new evaluators and users
Quite a few ops interested in checking out DXLab have joined this group over
the past week. Welcome!
To learn more about DXLab,
- a summary of capabilities is here:

- introductory documentation is here:

- Fred AB1OC's introductory presentation with multiple videos is here:

- a presentation entitled "DXing with DXLab" is here:

- a directory of applications that interoperate with DXLab is here:

If you're setting out to learn DXLab, especially if you've been using
another application, take it slow! Don't try to instantly replicate your
comfort level with that previous application. Pick one DXLab application,
scan the reference documentation to assemble a mental inventory of its
capabilities (but ignore all of the details), consult "Getting Started with
DXLab" for relevant step-by-step instructions, and then give the application
a try, configuring it to your needs and taste. Return to the reference
documentation for details, it necessary.
If you have questions or encounter difficulties, don't hesitate to post
here. All questions are welcome, no matter how many times they may have
already been asked and answered, or how obvious their answer may be in the
documentation.

Dave, AA6YQ
