I have made some calculations using the following map and some EME programs I use.
Here in the Ft. Lauderdale FL area the maximum eclipse will create about 78% coverage of the sun.
This will occur at approximately 3 PM local time.
the Sun and moon will be located as follows:
Elevation 63 degrees -- up from the Horizon (pretty high)
Azimuth 243 Degrees – about 30 degrees south of due west.
West coast of Fla. will occur a bit earlier, and further North will have a bit more coverage. JAX will have ~91% coverage. There will be no complete coverage of the sun in Florida. HOWEVER, we will be in conditions similar to “Gray Line” conditions and there may be some interesting things happen on any band, even 6 meters !
You can get an interactive map of the entire eclipse path at:
https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/map/2017-august-21#
It also tells you how to make a binocular viewer (projector) pinhole viewer in a box and other viewing projects.
They will have the viewing live on their web site.
I will be watching the Internet feeds and aiming my EME 2 meter array at the moon to see what happens there.
Also I will have WSPR programs running on 2 radios on different bands that will both transmit and receive and report the receptions on line.
Definitely 40 Meters, with 5 watts to a 1/4 wave vertical ground plane; and either 15 meters with 5 watts to my SteppIR aimed at about 320 degrees AZ or 100 watts on 160 meters with my 1/4 wave vertical.
I haven’t decided on the second station yet
BE SAFE ! do not look at the sun/moon conjunction with sunglasses or even 2 pairs of sunglasses.
Use an approved welding type smoked glass or a projector viewer.
Save your eyesight. It is a precious organ in your body.
