Good morning everyone. I hope you are all enjoying some cooler weather and
good DX this month.

This is a reminder that the Broward and Davie-Cooper City Amateur Radio
Clubs (BARC/DCARC) are hosting the Cy Harris Free Flea this coming
Saturday, Nov 19th.

Come enjoy the cooler weather, good coffee, catch up with friends and
search for those needed parts or great deals.

History of the Cy Harris Free Flea

Cy Harris W4MAQ is remembered by the Broward amateur radio Club and ham
community as the organizer of the Free Flea.

Cy held office with the BARC and was an enthusiastic worker helping present
their hamfest each November. When the BARC hamfest was discontinued, his
enthusiasm persisted by holding tail-gate parties, sometimes monthly,
sometimes when he just felt like it. Motorola, and employee members of the
Motorola Amateur Radio Club (MARC) generously supported the events in their
parking lot.

The cloudless, sunny Florida mornings brings out the enthusiastic crowd of
tailgaters and buyers/gawkers. The spirit of Cy Harris, W4MAQ prevails as
participants negotiate their sales and purchases while renewing
acquaintances and making new friends among the South Florida amateur
community.

We mourned Cy’s passing in 1988 and the BARC and DCARC clubs honor his
enthusiasm and memory by continuing to host the “Cy Harris W4MAQ Memorial
Free Flea” each spring and fall.
