Hello DXers:
Are you ready for rare DX ? ? The VK0EK team arrived at Heard Island
after being delayed a bit by weather, but reported they arrived under
excellent weather conditions. Rich, KY6R will be posting news on the web
site http://www.vk0ek.org and I suggest you make note of that so you can
see directly what is happening on Heard Island. He will announce the
start of their activity. There has already been at least one reported
SLIM. Don’t be misled ! !
I also strongly suggest you check the web site for the operating
frequencies. The Juan de Nova DXpedition should be coming on the air
next week (March 29th) and you don’t want to think you are working VK0EK
and are actually working FT4JA or vice versa.
FT4JA – PRESS RELEASE – March 23
After more than a year of work, we are happy to finally get into the
thick of it. The team will be complete in Mayotte on Thursday around
noon! The schedule for the coming days is pretty full, with the last
purchases and technical checks and the loading of the boat. We will sail
away on Saturday. Our chief pilot will communicate updated information
on the unloading and installation. At this time, we hope to be on the
air on the evening of March 29 after a full day spent assembling.
A page displaying in real time the progress of the team has been set up:
http://www.juandenovadx.com/en/track-us-in-real-time/
As a reminder, we will use the band plan shared with our friends at
VK0EK. Some windows are very narrow and we will have to live together in
all understanding, without departing from the intended plan, at the risk
of generating confusion and disruption between the two activities. Check
the FT4JA web site http://www.juandenovadx.com/en/ for their operating
frequencies. That chart is under the heading The DXpedition and BAND PLAN.
Our different pilots are available to pass information to the team
(JJ3PRT, ON9CFG, N5FG). The 10 operators will not have access to their
personal emails and because of a lack of internet connection we will not
be watching the DX-Cluster. No need to pass messages for us through that
medium.
This weekend will be crowded with the CQWW WPX SSB Contest and VK0EK
coming on the air as well.
Enjoy the activities and as always, Have Fun!
