The official weather forecast from South Georgia is available at http://www.gov.gs/information/weather/ . There is even a webcam at King Edward Point, updated every few minutes: http://www.gov.gs/media-2/webcams/ .

It's raining there now (and here, too!), but the forecast for the VP8SGI setup time tomorrow is, "Rain showers early with some sunshine later in the day. High near 5C. Winds S at 10 to 15 km/h. Chance of rain 40%." Partly cloudy skies are forecast through the weekend.

That is interesting about the winds and seas...

I chatted with Mike (GM0HCQ) VP8CMH/MM last night who is a bit west and south of them on a British research vessel, the James Clark Ross (big red boat), and the photo taken yesterday of the ship and an iceberg shows FLAT CALM sea and light winds!

Go to: http://www.gm0hcq.com/daily_images.htm

and click on the upper left photo.

If you go to www.gm0hcq.com

you can see Mike's entire website, which is very interesting, and if you go
to:

http://www.sailwx.info/shiptrack/shipposition.phtml?call=ZDLP

you will to to the worldwide ship tracking web site, where you can see the location of the JCR on a map.

... from OpDX ...

VP8SGI team expects to arrive early tomorrow to Husvik Bay, South Georgia Is. If everything goes well, they will be on the air tomorrow afternoon, South Georgia time.

David, K3LP, co leader of the VP8STI/VP8SGI DXpedition, called yesterday via satphone to Bill Hein, AA7XT. Bill tells me that "David sounded tired but in good spirits". David reported that they received two to three feet of snow to go along with the 70 mph winds.

VP8STI final log will be uploaded from South Georgia. Our manager N2OO, will turn on OQRS once we get those last log files and we make sure that the full log is complete. QSL updates will be posted on the VP8STI QRZ page.
