I think you are heading in the right direction, and from my experience,
retirement will definitely put more fanny in the seat time to the hobby ...
all to your advantage!
I needed the VP8 on lots of bands, having worked the Micro-Lite expedition
only on 20 and 15 in 2002. They have proven to be much more difficult than
I expected. The only band they have had really good signals on for me was
30 meters, and that was an easy work with a 3 element monobander at 80 feet.
The rest were not. I still need them on 6, 10 and 160, with 160 being the
most promising band. I could hear them last night, but had a dinner invite
and couldn't hang in there long enough to try them. 10 not peep, and 6 is a
band I don't have a real antenna for, although I can drive my LP on its 3rd
harmonic. It accepts power on 6M, but I am not sure what it does with it.
Good luck on the ATNO! Vy 73,
Hank

Ok... got K5P on the log on 20 and 80 CW! waiting for the on 160 right
now... now that puts me 9 away from Honor Roll... Next try to work VP8S...
Maybe I will get to Honor Roll before I retire!
