[SFDXA] Windows 10 fiasco report: WiFi intermittent

Hi Guys,
My wife Ann was goaded into clicking on one of the incessant "Upgrade to Windows
10" nags on her laptop that came with factory installed 8.1.
Bad move.
Under W10 the WiFi became intermittent. It worked, then it vanished, and no
amount of coaxing (lots of internet chatter about this one) would restore WiFi
functionality. Then it would spontaneously reappear. I figured, OK, I'll connect
via Ethernet and let the smart-asses at Dell or Microsoft help. No dice. This
modern new laptop computer no longer has a wired Ethernet port. How clever! No
WiFi? No alternative!

The W10 "upgrade(?)" came with a 30 day option to restore W8.1. I took it! The
8.1 restore took just a few minutes of well spent anxiety, and the only
(apparent) casualty was that the "Windows Update" shortcuts (and "charm") had
vanished. Reminds my of the grade school playground days. "You don't like me?
I'm taking my marbles and going home." I have a second computer with 8.1, and
was able to search for the "update" app on mine from my shortcut, and thus was
able to find and restore "update" on Ann's computer. A "Pin to start menu"
option restores the "charm" as well. By the way, the "update" app now has a
permanent "Windows 10" logo in that window. Don't be fooled, after restore you
are back to 8.1. After Windows updates you are still Win 8.1 despite the phoney
logo. There ought to be a law...

Bottom line:
(1) Windows 10 appears to be still in "alpha" release (come on guys, WiFi not
functioning correctly ??).
(2) I suppressed the W10 upgrade nag by "hiding" the W10 icon on the lower right
icon tray, then right clicking and customizing that icon as "hide icon, hide
notifications". NO more W10 nags.
(3) When you perform normal Windows updates, be sure to UNCLICK the Windows 10
upgrade in the "optional updates" list. Microsoft ALWAYS restores the "click" on
that selection! Don't be fooled by the Windows 10 logo in the "updates"
application Window. It is baloney, you are W8.1.
(4) Windows 10 brings NOTHING to the party. It is a Microsoft bomb like Vista.
Stick with 8.1 (so far, very good) or lower.

Cheers
Kai, KE4PT
