TS Erika

As of the 5:00 AM update from the NWS, with the cone of measurement uncertainty, as of this morning (Wednesday Aug 26th) looks like TS Erika will affect somewhere on the east coast of Florida? Current predictions from the NWS show that TS Erika could grow to be a Cat 1 Hurricane when it reaches the Florida Coast. Landfall per the NWS at this time could be anywhere between St. Augustine and Key West early Monday morning August 31.

Even though this storm at the present time is only 40 MPH with the movement of 18 MPH, everyone should not take this storm lightly as it could grow to be our first Atlantic Hurricane for 2015.

Should Erica impact Broward County as a rain event or as a hurricane, all ARES/RACES and amateur radio operators should be cognizant about weather conditions and should start to take care of their families, homes and start putting together their go kit. Secure your home now, stock up on food, fuel for your generator and vehicles.

Landfall is called for Sunday or Monday (and this can always change) so please call me and let me know if you are going to be available to volunteer and take on an assignment either Friday, Saturday or Sunday at the latest.

Broward County ARES/RACES will be alerted by myself as soon as the Broward County Emergency Management Division contacts me to get the word out that they will be activating and will let me know what level of staffing will be required by us.

Please remember that if Broward County is affected and Broward County ARES/RACES is called upon to activate, that we are still in desperate need of amateurs stepping forward to take on communications assignments as they are requested by Broward County Emergency management.

Keep our fingers crossed and hope that Erica is nothing more than a rain event for us.

Any questions, please ask.....

As always, thank you for your support in Broward County ARES/RACES

I will continue to keep; everyone advised as the storm approaches Florida.
