celebrates the founding of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU
<http://www.iaru.org/>) on April 18, 1925, in Paris, with ARRL
Co-Founder Hiram Percy Maxim, 1AW, as its first president.
From the 25 countries that formed the IARU in 1925, the IARU has grown
to include 160 member-societies in three regions.
Radio amateurs worldwide will take to the airwaves to mark the occasion
with special event stations. A listing is on the IARU WARD page
<http://www.iaru.org/world-amateur-radio-day.html>. The IARU encourages
groups to promote their World Amateur Radio Day activities on social
media, using the hash tag #WARD2015
<https://twitter.com/hashtag/ward2015> on Twitter and Facebook.
