When I am trying to bust a pileup in a Spanish speaking country I am N - 8 -
Puerto Rico... They always stand by for Puerto Rico and I fill in the
November Ocho... much to their amusement !

On Easter I am N - 8 - Peter Rabbit !

Whatever works LOL

One can go a bit further: When calling VU7AG, I was N-4-INDIA-INDIA (the
correct ITU phonetic). When calling T77C or 1A0KM, though, I became
N-4-ITALY-ITALY.

When calling VU7AG, I tried an experiment, and first called them as ITALY,
several times. Nil. I switched to INDIA, and they responded to the first
call. Similarly, I tried first calling T77C and 1A0KM as INDIA and then as
ITALY, and ITALY was much more successful.

I think the general rule is, always keep in mind who is trying to receive
you. Nearly always, the phonetic from the ITU list is the one to use, but
there are useful exceptions.

Don
Good call on the phonetics. Use what the DX station tends to use.
