Subject: [FCG] W1AW/4 - Week of February 19
As was announced at the Melbourne Hamfest meetings (and as you've noticed
if you've been on the bands much since January 1) W1AW is moving across the
country. This year, each state is hosting two weeks of operation from W1AW
on all bands and modes. Florida is hosting W1AW during the week of February
19, which is just around the corner.
N8PR and the SFDXA have taken the lead for the operation this February (FCG
will take the lead in November). As such, they've reserved time for
themselves. However, they need help from the FCG to offer coverage as
comprehensively as possible.
To that end, please click on the link at the bottom of this message (it
goes to a Google form). Fill in the form as completely as possible (RTTY =
Any Digital Mode) and click submit. Your request will go to one of our
three "Mode Captains." These three volunteers will be coordinating the
operation for FCG and will be responsible for finding spots for as many of
you as want to operate. Everyone can't operate at the same time on the same
band and mode, but it is permissible to have stations on CW, Phone, and
Digital on the same band simultaneously. The mode captains are:
CW = Gary "Red" Letchford K0LUZ
RTTY/Digital = Dan Thompson W4UH
SSB = Steve Szabo WB4OMM
When you submit the form, the mode captain will slot you in as closely as
possible to your requested time. In many cases, you will receive the
timeslot that you've requested. However, in the event that's not possible,
they will do the best they can to fit you in during that window. It is
imperative that we not have more than one signal per band/mode signing
W1AW/4, so strict adherence to your scheduled time is absolutely required.
The only guidelines for operating as W1AW is that you must pre-register
(the ARRL needs to know where everyone is for LOTW purposes) and you must
be prepared for big pileups. The rates and interest so far have both been
extremely high. If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a
line.
Also, to avoid disappointment, the SFDXA gang have already reserved
10/15/20m phone and digital for both Saturday and Sunday, 2/22 and 2/23.
However, there are still CW slots on 10/15/20m for the weekend, and the
WARC bands are wide open.
Let's do Florida proud and put together a big number for our first W1AW/4
week! The link to the form is below.
