It is with great sadness that I report the passing of Link McGarity,
WV4I this afternoon.

Quoted from the Sun-Sentinel tonight "A longtime pilot who flew
helicopters for the Marines and commercial planes forAmerican Airlines

Monday after his new plane – a small, blue and yellow homebuilt aircraft
he proudly showed his neighbors just months earlier – crashed into a
lake near hisWellington

home.

It happened just before 1 p.m. near the end of the runway at the private
Wellington

Club, where the pilot lived. He was in the plane alone when he crashed
and had been practicing landings, what pilots call "touch and gos," FAA
spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said."

To me, flying seemed to be his main love, behind his 2 teenage
daughters, then ham radio.
We would talk many mornings while he drove his daughters to school, and
I will miss hearing him on the repeaters.

Link was one of the founding Directors of the Palms West Amateur Radio
Club and has done many presentations for us over the years. His
knowledge of HF antennas and SDR radios made him an invaluable resource
to our club.

Out thoughts are with his family tonight as they struggle to come to
grips with this loss.

Link: may the wind be beneath your wings and the bands be long my
friend, 73 de KS4EC
