I wonder how they are getting around FCC rules; or how they think they are
getting around it?
Another interesting issue that was recently found by members of AMSAT was
that the IARU recently authorized a commercial entity to use 145.825 from a
low earth orbiting satellite. The IARU is the frequency coordinator for
amateur satellites.
The FCC then granted a Special Temporary Authority to use that frequency.
The name of the entity is Cosmogia Inc. While the STA expired before the
launch occurred, apparently a request for an extension has been filed. In
the application, it states only the name of the company and the owner, there
is no mention if the owner has a ham radio license. Sure beats me on how
the FCC authorized this, as we don't share that band unlike 432 MHz and
others.
The application:
https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/els/reports/STA_Print.cfm?mode=current&applicatio
n_seq=50076&RequestTimeout=1000
The authorization: https://apps.fcc.gov/els/GetAtt.html?id=123272&x=.
