Subject: [South Florida DX Association] Big pileups are expected on Route 66 in
September!

Big pileups are expected on Route 66 during the 11th annual [B]Route 66 on the
Air" special event. It kicks off on September 11th, 2010 at 00:00Z
and runs thru September 19th-23:59Z
This year more stations have been added with 1X1 calls from W6A to W6T.
Seventeen(17) of these will be fixed operations along old Route 66 from Chicago
to
Santa Monica, California. Three additional mobile rover stations will also be
involved. One of these (W6S) will drive from Chicago to Santa Monica, while
another (W6R) will drive from Santa Monica to Chicago and the third one
(W6T)will run along old Route 66 in Northern Arizona. Yes, that means there will

be 20 stations to make contact with for a clean sweep during the 9 day event. It

becomes quite a challenge to work all 20. However, if you work at
least 1, you can apply for a nice frameable certificate from the Citrus Belt
Amateur Radio Club. The certificate is $4 and as you work each additional
station, you get endorsements on the certificate for those worked.
Each of the individual stations will also have their own unique RT 66 QSL's, and

they can be obtained by contacting the stations assigned QSL manager WITH AN S.
A. S. E. OR a greenback. Please remember many of the clubs involved are small so

they need at least a S.A.S.E. to help with the QSL cost. Each of the QSL
managers for the individual stations are listed on the website of CBARC at
[url]www.w6jbt.org or just "Google Route 66 on the Air" for all the details.
This all started back in 1999, when members of the Northern Arizona DX
Association, in Flagstaff, Arizona, conceived the idea to put RT 66 on the Air
as a club project. At the time, we decided to get 13 stations along RT 66 to
participate. The thought was to get one station in each of the cities mentioned
in Bobby Troup's song "Get your kicks on Route 66". You may remember in the
song, the wording of "Flagstaff, Arizona, Don't forget Winona". Well, during the

first two years, this special event grew way beyond our small club's
capabilities to handle so we ask for help from the other larger clubs involved.
The Citrus Belt Amateur Radio Club, stepped up and with Jeff Richardson, W6JJR
as event coordinator, the event has flourished even more! They have done such a
great job of handling it and adding a new twist here and there to keep it
interesting and challenging.
So, join in the fun and Get your kicks(&QSOs) on Route 66. We hope to
have you in our log, but be ready for the pileups!!!
