New ARRL Web Site to Launch Today !

On Wednesday, March 24, the ARRL will launch a new Web site to connect Amateur Radio operators around the world with the dynamic services that the League offers to the ham radio community. The "old" Web site at will go dark for a few hours early on Wednesday, March 24, starting around 10 AM (EDT) and lasting for a few hours. During this period the servers, programs and data will be shifted over to the new site. The new URL will be the same as the old site -- www.arrl.org.

ARRL members who have been logging in to the present Web site will find that their accounts are fully active on the new site, but they will have to log in using their site username (call sign) and password. For those who may not recall their password, the new site provides a "Forgot Password" link that will take you to a page that will reset your password to a temporary one and send an e-mail to your registered e-mail address, letting you access the site and change your password. Members who have difficulty recovering their password can contact ARRL via the contact page on the new site.

The ARRL not only provide services to its American members, but it is a key resource to more than 2.5 million radio amateurs around the globe. As such, the ARRL expects very heavy usage of the new site in its first hours as people look at the site's new capabilities that include audio, video, PowerPoint presentations and enhanced downloading.

To meet this growing need, Fathom -- the Hartford-based brand and creative firm -- led the League through a multi-year strategic Web site planning process that included focus groups, site architecture development, design, content generation and functionality. Fathom's other clients include Yale University, ConnectiCare, Wireless Zone, Aid to Artisans and more. "Once we recognized that the ARRL's ultimate goal was to create a Web site that reflected the organization's member-centric focus, we had the spark we needed to frame our initial planning and designs," said Fathom's Executive Creative Director Brent Robertson, KB1PYY.

With its many roles, ARRL generates a tremendous amount of Internet content, attracting frequent visits from radio amateurs around the globe -- including its more than 156,000 members. In addition, the ARRL's Web site is used worldwide as a technical resource in wireless communications developments and design. The previous ARRL Web site had grown to more than 48,000 pages, causing challenges in finding and updating content and ensuring consistent information throughout the site.

A new, custom-built content management system allows ARRL staff to update virtually every facet of the site in real time -- a must when ham radio operators are responding to emergency situations such as Haiti and across the globe. The new site is designed and carefully vetted to work for active ham operators, while also welcoming media inquiries, the public and those curious about Amateur Radio.
