From Steve Adams  N4JRW about his work during the Haiti earthquake rescue
effort:  I was a net controller on the IRESC International Radio Emergency
Support Coalition during that time. I was glad to see I was on the list in
the most recent QST I don't think I will be posting anywhere near to these
numbers. The net controlling was a busy time and in the end a bit exhausting
but the mission was there and I needed to contribute what I could.  Next
month maybe I'll try the NTS.  Thanks for your help Phyllisan, 73 from
Pompano Beach.
Congratulations, Steve, and thanks for sharing your 53 hour experience with
us. We'll listen for you on NTS!

Our Technical Specialists have been busy:

N4TZH: When does once in a lifetime opportunity become a BETTER once in a
lifetime opportunity? When the NFL Pro-Bowl and Super Bowl XLIV comes to
South Florida within the same week!
I was fortunate enough to be selected to support the NFL Frequency
Coordination crew for the 2010 Pro-Bowl and Super Bowl 44. Frequency
coordination is critical to the success of these events. With over 10,000
different frequencies in use pre-game, durring and post-game, the chance that
2 or more users will show up on the same frequency at the same time is a very
real scenario. My job was to assist in ensuring that members of the media
were coordinated on frequencies that would not interfere with other users. I
operated a service monitor which read the frequency of the equipment then
viewed the signal on a spectrum analyzer to ensure a 'clean' signal. The crew
did a great job, with no reports of any frequency colisions and 2 smooth
productions.
Other local hams participating were (Sorry if I miss anyone, there were a lot
of Hams!), Ernesto Diaz-KG4LXH (Miami Dolphins Co-GDC[Game Day Coordinator]),
Jan Fine-KI4GQQ, Peter Pisano-W4PRP, Orlando Rojas-W4JN, Joe Belden-K3JDB,
Charles Ebert-KB4PFC, Kevin Scanlon-K4PCS, George Abrams-K4PAA, Jared
Lambert-K4JJL, Virgil Salisbury-K4VSC, and Robert Wyman-KI4RGR

I visited K4BMU.She had been off the air for many many years (rasing a
family).  Radios sure have changed a lot since she was last on. So I went
over there and showed her how to 'program' her new 2 meter rig (the CTCSS
tone stuff was confusing to me too).  Also, checked her new HF rig and icom
autotuner to ensure her that it really was working. Put in maybe two
leisurely enjoyable hours. Didn't need to get out a meter or a screwdriver.
We  broadcasted some of the forums at the radio fest LIVE on the internet !

Silent Key
Sal Ippolito N4YQU passed away 2/15.  Sal was always ready to help the club
with cleaning up, contests or antenna work. Sal was always seen at Field Day
where on several occasions he showed off his cooking skills.
