Hi Everyone,

This has been another busy month around the section.

WX4NHC had a successful test for their station and the Hurricane Watch
Net. Several groups did public services events and a lot of groups are
getting ready for Field Day.

Below are news items and the monthly reports. These will not be posted
on the section page at ARRL.org until the size and color is better for
our aging(?) eyes.
=======
Silent Key:
Art Lindell, W4ZEF. Art was a long-time president and drivng force of
the Fort Pierce Amateur Radio Club. He was Hamfest Chairman, VE, Elmer
and much more to the amateur community. His family includes many hams -
wife Ginny, K4ZEF, brothers Bruce WA4ZEF and Ron W4RNJ, and son-in-law
Steven KJ4OSM.
======
Birth of Skywarn

  In 1882, Sgt. John P. Finley of the United States Army Signal Corps
weather program (known as the “Division of Telegrams and Reports for
the Benefit of Commerce and Agriculture”) headed up a program to
document and understand local storms, including tornadoes. About 1000
“reporters” were organized in the central and eastern U. S. to
report tornado occurrences and damage.

Field Day

Thank you to the few of you that sent me information directly. I have
read reflectors and used the ARRL web site to obtain many locations.
Below are the locations by county. (if no street location is listed it
indicates no information, or GPS coordinates only, provided on the ARRL
web site).

Don't forget to place an NTS formatted message into the NTS traffic
system for the SM or the SEC (don't write it at the site and phone it -
relay via Amateur Radio).

Hello Fellow Ham Radio Operators,

In cooperation with the National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida,
and WX4NHC, we are asking for your assistance in the 2010 Hurricane
Season.

The most important role amateur radio plays in hurricanes is to gather
and relay information to the National Hurricane Center through WX4NHC .

While there are mechanisms to do this, we are always looking for more
assistance in this vital job. You could be the only station in the
impacted area and your Eye Witness Reports or measured data, if you
have a weather station, could be critical to the forecasters. You could
be the only station hearing some other ham calling with a report or
needing assistance in a dangerous situation they are in. Also, you
could play the important role in translating a Ham's report into a
language that we understand. So as you can see, everyone has a part
they can play.

WX4NHC on 14.325 MHz is a frequency that you should always monitor
during a hurricane. More information can be found at www.wx4nhc.org
This frequency is maintained for hurricanes by the Hurricane Watch Net
www.hwn.org

The VoIP Hurricane Net utilizes Echolink and IRLP to link stations
together over the internet. When HF propagation is not good, sometimes
this is the only way information reaches WX4NHC .
EchoLink Conference Room is WX-Talk (Node 7203) and IRLP Node is 9219.
More information can be found at www.voipwx.net

We ask you for your support and assistance anytime the Hurricane Watch
Net, VoIP Hurricane Net, and WX4NHC are active. The part you play may
save someone's life!

==============
Many clubs assist the family of Silent Keys with disposal of equipment.
  Often there is a surviving ham in the family and this assistance is not
needed. However, if the surviving ham is a family member at ARRL they
may continue to receive QST for the remainder of the primary members
membership term, by request. A reminder to the family about this would
be helpful.
=============
That's all for now. Keep an eye on the Tropics. Get on the air and
make some contacts.

Stay safe.
73,
Sherri, W4STB
