Dear fellow amateur,
Do you feel that you are represented on the ARRL Board of Directors? Have you
been asked how you felt about issues being brought before the Board at meetings
or in committees? Do you know what issues the board considers before the
meeting?
In 2007 I ran for election as the ARRL Southeastern Division Director because I
wanted all amateurs informed and represented on policy issues. I felt all
amateurs should be regularly informed via newsletters and an effective website.
Now, in 2010 it's "business as usual" and the individual ARRL member still has
no voice, is rarely informed, and we all find it difficult to navigate the new
ARRL website.
Each amateur should have a voice heard by the Board of Directors. The Directors
should respond to members and keep them informed of the issues. Reading the
agenda for the Board meeting and reading the minutes and committee reports after
the meeting do not accomplish this. Attending hamfests, speaking at club
meetings and hurricane conferences is not enough. Asking the Section Managers
for input three weeks before the Board meeting is inadequate.
If elected your Director I will send periodic e-mail newsletters, provide a
modern, informative website for the Southeastern Division, and seek your input
on matters coming before the Board.
Thank you for all that you do for Amateur Radio with your clubs and your ARES®
groups. Our volunteers are what make ARRL work at the local level.
I have a web site under construction. Please visit it and check back there in a
few weeks.
