Hi Pete,
A current snapshot of LoTW shows:
*279,708,314* QSO records have been entered into the system.
*29,675,415* QSL records have resulted.
*33,371* Users are registered in the system
which means that the average QSL rate for all LoTW users must be
somewhat better than:
2 x 29,675,415 / (279,708,314 - 29,675,415) x 100%= 23.7%
I say "somewhat better than" because there are also errors that have
been uploaded which would depress the actual rate. I wish that more
people would upload their ENTIRE logs like you did. We'd all get a
better hit on the "ancient" QSOs.
We can play a bit more with the numbers. There are 33,371 registered
users which equals the 23.7%, so one "guess" at the number of "active
hams" out there could be;
33,371/(0.237) = 140,800 hams who play at the same table that
includes LoTW users.
Taking a wild guess that there are about 3,250,000 hams world wide, the
percentage of "active hams" is
140,800/3,250,000 x 100% = 4.3%!! ... only 1 in 23 hams is active
in the same way as are LoTW users??
Well, you know the old saying: "there are liars, there are damned liars,
and there are statisticians", so take the above with a grain of salt. On
a second
thought, take it with a bag of salt!
Pete, I'll bet that if you just counted your LoTW rate for the last 2 or
3 years you'd come up with a much higher percentage.
73,
Kai, KE4PT
