I am sure every one was aware of Marti's recent medical problems and
subsequent recovery. The following was from a fellow DXer herein South Florida
with an additional few comments from Marti.

FYI
Forwarding a copy of a note from Martti Laine (OH2BH) to a friend of mine.
Thought you might be interested. I think Martti had a very close call
and it is good to see him "back on the bands " again.......

Good morning,
I sent a note to Martti last evening. I thought you would all like to
read his reply.

Kip,
Yes I knew that you were there------with me! They had to do surgery on my
infected leg in hurry in spite of
the high fevers since no antibiotics were working as they had expected. My
own immune system was not
strong enough to help the medicine! It was a close call at lest for my
leg.
With plastic surgery it looks reasonable but I may not be ready for
Hawaiian Hilton Village anytime soon.
But never was thus not a problem on cosmetics. Started with walker, went
to walking sticks and finally
two weeks ago I did throw my cane for the fishes! I am standing tall on my
own!
And last week I was organizing the antenna party to put up more beams up
at my contest site. Leena said
that it was a good sign and needed effort to get my mind out of those past
two months.
Oct.05 to Azores to furnish our new home!
Oct.20 to NYC for CQWW at 4U1UN.
So I am counting on my strength to get back on almost normal pace of life!
Hope your plans come true with
many years to go------and ultimately you get FT8GA and all missed ones
soon.
Keep in touch----see if you can work OH2BH this weekend in the
Scandinavian Contest.
Martti

Martti,
I’ve been keenly watching all of the traffic about you and your health—it
appears that your bull-like approach to these things has prevailed, as I
knew it would. I really hope you have beaten back all of the viruses and
other stuff and are now back to 100%. I did not want to intrude on your
recovery, so I did not send you another “get well soon” message, but I hope
you know I was hoping and praying that all would turn out well.
Now the FT5GA operation has begun. As you might guess, there are lots of
not-nice comments floating about, this only the second day. As Cass would
say, if I can’t hear and work them right away, it must be a lousy
operation. I’m biding my time (this is one of only five more) and I can only hope
there is no premature end to the operation, so my call will somehow sneak
into the log at the end.
I’m writing for no reason other than to wish you and your family well.
Life goes on here, and I guess I’ll work another couple of years and then see
if I can find something to do that I’m passionate about doing—and work the
remaining five, with an occasional dip to 30 meters.
