Hi everyone,

Do you share my desire for a little cooler weather? It should be arriving
soon because I see snowbirds arriving, both those with out of state license
plates and those with feathers.

It was good to see many of you at the Melbourne hamfest. I hope everyone had
a fun time, met many old and new friends and found some bargains.

Excellent stats for the state of Florida and Southern Florida Section nets.
The 331 rise of check-ins may be a sign that our snowbirds are flying back.
Let's give them a warm welcome and invite them to our clubs and nets.
I hope all the SET's went well. PSHR: 5 points/hour of participation Category

Volunteer Opportunities for Public Service Events:
The annual Food for Families Drive will be held on Saturday Nov 14 and
Saturday Nov 21. For those who haven't done this before we ask for volunteers
to pick up food donations from Publix stores and deliver them to NewsChannel
5 in downtown West Palm Beach. Most people get started by 9am and finish by
noon.

People wishing to volunteer north of Gateway Blvd should contact Chuck Egan,
KF4YYIat 561-622-6536 during the day or 561-963-4551 in the evening. Email is
KF4YYI at arrl.net

Those south of Gateway Blvd should contact Ron Diego, W2DO. Ron's email is
W2DO at bellsouth.net.

The largest public service event that Palm Beach County has ever seen will be
coming in early December. On the weekend of Dec 5th and 6th, the West Palm
Beach Chamber of Commerce, in association with Publix and a large number of
other sponsors, will be hosting the 6th annual "The Palm Beaches Marathon
Festival". The events on Sunday are:The Palm Beaches Marathon: Distance 26.2
miles,The Palm Beaches Half Marathon: Distance 13.1 miles, The Palm Beaches
Wheelchair Marathon: Distance 26.2 miles, and The Palm Beaches Bike Tour: 26
mile Ride (not a race) . On Saturday the events are: The Palm Beaches 5K:
Distance 3.1 miles, The Ronald McDonald House Charities Kids 1K: Distance
.61 miles, and The Ronald McDonald House Charities Marathon Mile. Much more
information can be found at http://www.pbmarathon.com.
VOLUNTEERS: Approximately 20 Amateur Radio Operators will be needed on
Saturday, December 5th. On Sunday, December 6th, we will need 40 to 50
volunteers. Radio Operators do not have to be limited to Palm Beach.
Volunteers from any county, in any state, are welcome. In the past, some
people have not volunteered due to physical limitations. However, this year
that should not stop you from volunteering. The Amateur Radio organizers will
do their best to accommodate any volunteer with special needs. If you are
interested in volunteering for this amazing event, please contact Warren
Rothberg, W4WR, Amateur Radio Volunteer Coordinator, at w4wr (AT)
bellsouth.net or w4wr (AT) arrl.net. Email is preferred, but if a phone call
is necessary, he can be reached at (561) 637-2412. Warren is also looking for
a volunteer to assist him in organizing and preparation. If you are
interested in being what the Chamber calls a "Committee Vice Chair", please
let Warren know.
-------
The Holiday Boat Parade is also approaching. Contact Robin, N4HHP n4hhp@
arrl.net if you can help on the bridges. This is a late afternoon to evening
event.

Check out Google Earth and http://www.guiweather.com/ for a way to keep track
of the weather and the lightning that will fry you and your station if you
are on the air (or have your antenna deployed) at the wrong time. It is
better than counting the time between flash and bang.
====
Our condolences go to member Barbara Tenn, KJ4KFF who lost family members in a
tragic accident involving her ham radio antenna.

Till next month stay safe, stay healthy, and stay on the air.
