I saw Doug made a comment about the one WN4AMO bought. I helped him get it 
set up. It was essentially DOA. It failed during
one of the very first tests - wouldn't generate any current. It put out the 
3600 - 3700 V on the initial test and that was it.

Paul shipped it back to HRO in Atlanta and they sent him another one very 
quickly. That one is running like a champ.

Truly the only complaint I have on my AL-82 is the location of the knobs. 
All the "little" amps Ameritron sells have the Plate and Load
knobs side by side. It's easy to make a template (years ago I used the back 
of an IBM card!) so you can see presets for tuning
the amp. On the AL-82, AL-1200 and AL-1500 (the really big three of the 
Ameritron amps), the Plate and Load knobs
are above each other. I finally built a template for the upper knob by 
drawing something in Photoshop (essentially a linear
scale on a curved axis, just like on the other control. You can sort of make 
it out in my pic at QRZ.com.

The amp is a tank - I've done about everything I could to kill it! It will 
put out more than legal power on several (lower) bands.
