As the title implies, this group is dedicated to Public Service Events (PSE)
in the South Florida Section (SFL). This is a valuable coin with two sides.
Event leaders have a hard time getting the word out that he/she needs
volunteers for events that require more volunteers than he/she can muster
up. Volunteers have a hard time knowing what PSE's are out there - even in
their local neighborhoods, so they can help out.

Typical comments from people who join the group go like this:

Hello,

The following person would like to join the sflpse group:

Email address: kj4lox at att.net <kj4lox at att.net>

Comment from user:

Many volunteer events occur which I do not find out about until too late but
this site would help with such information.

Volunteers will be able to see those events by clicking on "Calendar" in the
left hand menu. This will take them to a calendar with a brief description
of the event. By clicking on the event in the calendar, the details of the
event will appear with the contact name, email or telephone number, the
numbers of volunteers needs, dates, times, locations and everything else you
need to know about the event. It is up to you to make the contact with the
name(s) given.

South Florida Public Service Events (PSE) maintains, in calendar form,
events within the ARRL South Florida Section where you can find many events
that require our skills as Amateur Radio operators. These events are
maintained for members of this group to view, and to have email notification
about upcoming events. The group is moderated to eliminate excessive or
needless postings. Events may be posted by Volunteers, Event Coordinators,
or the Group Owner and Moderators.

Please reach out to the contact provided to identify how you may serve and
what equipment you may need to bring. We are asking that you fill out a
brief survey in hopes that, if necessary, we may call on you again in the
future. We hope to post reference material, event documents, frequency
list's and links to other event sources to make it as easy as possible to
keep operators active in Public Service.

On the home page, there is a link provided for you to fill out a brief form
as a Volunteer or Event Coordinator. In the group, under "Applications", I
have installed beta versions of:

 <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sflpse/app/howto> How To (Instructions)

I have added three new applications to the group. This one is a "how to"
where group members can share their "how to" guides with other group
members. Hopefully, we won't make the same mistakes!

 <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sflpse/app/peoplemap> People Map

See where other group members live and share where you are from. But only
share as much as you are comfortable with. Similar to other mapping programs
but it's fun to see where all the members are. Enjoy!

 <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sflpse/app/rsvp> RSVP

Finally I've added the RSVP application where you can create events on the
calendar and then track how many folks are coming. Let me know if it works
for you!

You will have to click on "Applications" to see these. I would like to
EMPHASIZE: This site serves several purposes: . It provides you with an
opportunity to "browse" through some public service opportunities that you
might not know about. . It provides event organizers a method of publicizing
their upcoming PSE's (Public Service Events). . Every time an event
coordinator puts up an event, you automatically receive email telling you
about it. . This site is not "in place" of anything you are doing now. It's
just an additional aid in helping you find events. It's only there to help
you IF you want it.

I hope to see you at many of these events. Questions? Email me at
