Hi Everyone,

April is National Volunteer Month.  Florida Governor Crist has also declared
it Florida Volunteer Month.  Please join me in saying THANK YOU to all of 
our
volunteers - for their contributions to amateur radio and other 
organizations
in their communities.

One Special Volunteer has been appointed Fourth Region Cycle 4 Manager -
Phyllisan West, KA4FZI.  Another volunteer in SFL is being honored by 
peers -
On May 2  Palm Beach County ARES® will hold a combined Drill and Dave
Messinger Appreciation Appreciation Day Picnic at  John Prince Park --  
Smythe
Pavilion, Lake Worth beginning at 11:00am.

April 18 is the IARU Global SET and International Amateur Radio Awareness 
Day.
In the SFL Section we will be represented in the SET by OES Glenn Geist, 
N4HO
and Palm Beach County ARES, W4PBC.

There were a lot of activities in March.  Here is a sampling:

Brevard: 3 Nets for Launch of shuttle and unmanned  rocket.  BEARS -1 
deployed
for the shuttle launch to observation causeway

Lee: ARES had an information table set up at the Fort Myers Amateur Radio 
Club
Skills Fair.  (see the section news page for photos)

Martin: Spring Set was held in Flagler Park downtown Stuart on March 7.   27
licensed amateurs and 7 visitors attended.  The drill simulated a hurricane
in which severe weather took out both repeaters.  March 31 MCARES started a
Technician class.  Of the 8 "Hams to be," 4 of them were recruited from the
Spring Set as a result of  extra PR efforts in local and on-line media.

On March 11  Martin and St. Lucie counties participated in a drill that
simulated a terrorist attack on the St Lucie Nuclear Power Plant.

Miami-Dade: The Junior Orange Bowl Organization Gave an award to the
ARES/RACES group of Coral Gables for its years of service

Palm Beach: Short training sessions continue each Wednesday night net, 8pm 
on
the 146.670 repeater.   Sessions included a three week formal message 
traffic
training series and a 2 part series on portable generators for emergency
communication use.
