I watch the beacons and there was a lot of new activity on the bands all the way up to 10 meters the first day of the new sunspot.  The same thing happened the first day of the last new sunspot a week or so ago.  I can almost just leave my beacon program running during the day, and tell you whether there is a sunspot by the results.  You can Google for a program to monitor the beacons.
