ok guys and gals,

here's what I found out. W6XA in South Carolina (recommended by someone on 
the list) only handles ICOM. Chris at ck at radio.net will not do ANY HT's 
because compared to prices of new units, it is not cost effective and he 
would have to charge you more than the HT is worth. However, Chris WILL work 
on mobiles, so if you have a mobile that needs repair, write Chris at 
ck at radio.net .You are all familiary with factory service centers, so I won't 
even go into those.

At this point, it looks like Portable Repair may be the only option for 
HT's. I am going to write them today and ask for the background and 
qualifications of their repair tech. References, too, if they will give me 
any. And I will post the results here.
