One of Fort Lauderdale's signature events, the 36-year-old Winterfest Boat
Parade, is changing course.
For the first time in decades, a city official said, the parade will start
downtown in the New River, by the Broward Center for the Performing Arts,
rather than at Port Everglades south of the 17th Street Bridge.
>From the New River, the parade's traditional 100-plus boats, decorated in
all manner of Christmas cheer, will proceed north up the Intracoastal
Waterway to their traditional destination: Lake Santa Barbara in Pompano
Beach.
By volunteering, you get front row seats to the Winterfest Boat Parade. This
event is shown in many different Countries with over 80 MILLION VIEWERS.
What the Winterfest committee task each of us is to be the eyes and ears of
the parade since we at Parade Control do not see the Parade at all. So we
rely on what you hear and see and report back to us. With that information,
we at Parade Control would call police, fire, rescue, Coast Guard, Marine
Patrol etc.
December 15th is the annual Fort Lauderdale Winterfest Boat Parade. I still
need amateurs to cover three bridges, staging areas and the docks.
The bridges are: (First come first served.)
7th Avenue Bridge (North or South side your choice)
Andrews Avenue Bridge (North or South side your choice)
3rd Avenue Bridge (North or South side your choice)
Please, call me and sign up for this. On December 5th, we will have a
Control Boat meeting (PIZZA PARTY) and after the Parade in February, we will
have a super volunteer party that you will be invited to.
All you need is a handheld with PL capability, a fully charged spare
battery, a headset so you can hear Parade Control and the desire to have
fun. You will have a front row seat to the parade since all the parade boats
(100 of them) will pass right in front of your Bridge.
For all bridge positions, you can bring one friend, wife OR husband to keep
you company. Other positions are only one person assignments.
AGAIN, PLEASE CALL ME @ 954-249-5343 or send me an email at n4hhp at comcast.

Ps.... If you know any other ham that wants to participate, please have them
call me.
Also if you or you have a friend who owns a boat and wants to be a security
boat operator for a better front row seat, then contact me too.
