I used to live in Indian Harbour Beach. I thought being on an island with
causeway bridges (SR's 528, 520, 404, 518, and 192) all being over 3 miles
long (Indian River Lagoon / Banana River Lagoon). On the south end of our
island is Sebastian Inlet, about 1500 feet wide). On the north end of the
island is the Barge Canal Bridge, which takes SR 401 and goes to the north
side of Port Canal and the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. I put NA141
down during an IOTA contest, and was blasted by some pompus a-shole who said
that my "island" did not qualify for an IOTA listing. Seems that the canal
between Port Canaveral and the Banana River is only 225 feet wide, and the
"rule" requires separation to the "nearest land mass" of 250 feet. So when
you are going to the barrier island that becomes Melbourne Beach,
Indialantic, Indian Harbour Beach, Cocoa Beach, and Cape Canaveral, remember
that according to IOTA, these cities on the barrier island are not on an
island. What a bunch of crap.
