Hello everyone,
The holiday season begins soon and I wish you a happy, healthy season with
family and friends.
We have talked a lot about training lately. All the training does no good
if
we don't get on the air. So dust off the equipment, use a rig that has been
idle, try a new mode, check into a different net, call CQ and make a new
friend. Have some fun on the air and get to know your equipment because an
emergency is not the time to drag out the manual. In December there will be
the NWS Skywarn Appreciation Day event and at the end of December there will
be celebration of 100 years of voice over radio. Take part in one of those
events or contact a special event station listed in QST.

Want to become a Skywarn storm spotter?
Training classes to become a spotter will be held on Nov. 18, a Saturday,
for
beginners from 9:30 a.m. to noon and for advanced students from 1 to 3 p.m.
at the Broward County Emergency Operations Office, 201 N. W. 84th Ave., in
Plantation. The classes will be conducted by a meteorologist with the
National Weather Service in Miami.
There are several Public Service opportunities listed on the news page at
www.arrl.org/sections/SFL.html. I have posted news items and photos in the
last two weeks and photos of the Okeechobee hamfest will be posted soon.
Many clubs have reflectors for their members. Please add our Affiliated
Club
Coordinator, Jeremy Briggs, K4OCD to your list for newsletters and
reflectors. I also read a lot of the reflectors and gather news from them.
This is the time of year that most clubs elect officers for the coming year.
Please remember to update your club page and to send a list of the officers
to Jeremy and me. If you are the publicity chairperson for your club make
an
early New Year resolution to send the local news an updated listing of your
meetings and exam sessions and a list of the new officers.
Till next month stay safe and stay on the air.
