Fixing a bad pot is usually not very much of a problem as long as there are  
not a lot switch functions associated with it (the wiring becomes the  task).  
The key thing to determine is the resistance value, that should be  on the 
schematic, and next some idea of the diameter - is it a mini or  standard.  
Almost all standard pots have a 1/4" mounting bushing, and the  mini are smaller 
about 3/16"  - Shaft length is also a  consideration.  But parts often can be 
swapped if diameters  are the same. 
 
However, I have often just disassembled the control, cleaned up the wiper  
and viola it works fine.  I would try that, remove the pot, open the clips  to 
expose the wiper and resistance ring, clean it carefully and  reassemble.
