Ed,
I gave serious consideration to a Hazer system when I was planning my main
VHF/UHF system a few years ago. I should mention that I was also planning
a GME aluminum tower to go along with the Hazer, but I do know that using
one on a Rohn 25 is popular.
Contrary to some problems that people seem to have had with GME (see
reviews on e-ham), I had excellent e-mail communications with them. Thanks
to their honesty in answering my questions, I decided to pass on the Hazer
and went with a Heights fold-over aluminum tower instead. My reasons for
not using the Hazer:
1. All of the feed lines travel up and down with the Hazer tram. This is
not good if you are using or plan to use hard line. Right now, my largest
lines are LMR-600, but I am planning to use hard line as I expand
operations above 70cm. Also, even if you do not use hard line, you will
have a lot of weight to drag up if you have many coax runs on the tower. I
have 9 runs right now, plus rotator and switching control cables, so that's
a consideration.
2. The spacing of the mast center in the tram relative to the face of the
tower was such that I would have had to re-build my 2m yagis to keep them
from crashing into the tower. Antennas for 6m and HF are no problem, and
neither are antennas for the bands above 2m. So, check the element size
and spacing of your antennas and be sure to get a drawing of the Hazer so
that you can see if your antennas will clear.
You can go onto e-ham and read my review of the Heights tower. It has
worked well for me, and I am sure that the GME towers and Hazers work well
for others. As in most cases, evaluate the situation carefully and your
mileage may vary.
