I am sure the old timers chasing DX will recall the call sign of Frank Lucas
W3CRA, reported to consistantly have the strongest signal at a rare and remote
DX location. Great CW operator, modest station hardware, but apparently a
very special location. If Frank was calling, might as well wait until he was
finished.

"W3CRA held the Nr. 1 pre-war DXCC. His signal into Asia was legendary. Gus
Browning said "I remember (this signal from) W3CRA …. when no other US
station
was even being heard." DX Editor, Herb Becker-W6QD wrote that his visit to
Frank's place was like a Moslem going to Mecca. And the great four part 1966
QST
series, "Station Design for DX,"

The following website is an effort to analyze W3CRA's location to see if it
had some special characteristics. The comments and picture of what is left of
Frank's now abandoned shack are of interest.
