Hello everyone,
Seems like it was just yesterday that I was wishing everyone a happy New
Year.
 How time does fly.

It was great to meet many of you in Miami. I know I had a good time and I
hope all attendees did as well. We have more hamfests in March and May in
the
section. Please visit the hamfests and support your hardworking fellow
hams.
A hamfest takes a lot of work and man-hours to put together. Thank you to
all
who work on hamfest committees.

A reminder for Emergency Coordinators, publicity persons, public affairs
officers and webmasters: ARES® is to be used in all news releases,
brochures,
and web sites. ARES is not to be put in quotes or used in any other format.
See the following for more detailed information:
http://www.arrl.org/FandES/field/forms/ARES-Registered-Trademark.pdf. Also
please check all publications and websites to ensure that you are properly
identifying ARRL appointees -- AECs and VEs are not official ARRL
appointees.

Several Cabinet members and I are planning to visit Field Day sites. Please
send me your location and directions from major roads so that we can plan
our
route. (w4stb at arl.org) Also, be sure to check the Field Day rules (in the
contest area at arrl.org) because there are several changes this year.

FAST net is changing. The HF phone net, part of the National Traffic System
(NTS), was started many years ago by K4SCL, with sessions on 3940 at 6 PM
and
10:30 PM eastern time. Because the 75-meter band is so over crowded late at
night, participation has dropped. Therefore, the 10:30 PM session is
temporarily canceled. The 6 PM session will continue and emphasize NTS
training. It is a great place to learn NTS format, how to control a net, and
practice traffic handling skills. The friendly, knowledgeable regulars will
answer questions and guide newcomers. It is a good place for ARES members to
practice their message handling skills. I would appreciate suggestions
concerning time/frequency and other ways to help rebuild the net. Please
contact me via NTS or E-mail: ka4fzi at aol.com with "FAST NET" as a subject.

(See www.arrl.org/sections/sfl.html for more information -- will be updated
soon)

Stay well and stay on the air.

73,
Sherri, W4STB
