Let me make something clear about my comments on the Miami Hamfest. I am
talking about the hamfest in general terms, i.e. attendance, vendors, etc.
I am NOT talking about the DX Forum, the DX Dinner, or other DX related
activities. I got late for the DX Forum (had to work), but everyone who
attended said it was superb. I was able to make the DX Dinner, and it
couldn't be better. Food was good, program very funny, great
amaraderie. --Everything was good, except that I did not win a price!
Congratulation to the organizers. The Orlando Hamfest attendance was
bigger than expected. I was told that they ran out of tickets, and had to
mark-over some left from 2004. They had great forums on every subject. I
missed it, but understand that a presentation by Charlie, K4VUD on the
VU4 DXpedition/Tsunami was very good. The FCG lunch/meeting draw a big
crowd (FCG has now nearly 200 members, and counting!) At the Miami Hamfest,
I attended the IARU Forum, with only 3 or 4 more present. The ARRL Forum
had some more. I remember 10-12 years ago, when 10,000 would attend the
Miami Hamfest, occupying 4 buildings, plus the meetings rooms. And I have
photos and hamfest programs to prove it. But we cannot run a show the same
way we did 40 years ago. The Dade Radio Club of Miami should reorganize
itself (starting with a new name), face the challenges of the present and
look for a better future, or else! That's my personal, frank and sincere
opinion. I love this hobby, have been a ham for 42 years, and want the best
for it. Thanks to those who sent me supporting e-mails, and for those who
criticized me, hope that this comment will clarify what I meant. I don't
want to be controversial. You all know that English is not my first
language, and sometimes I mess everything up. No heart feelings please.
Sorry for the bandwidth, but I had to speak-out, so no misunderstandings.
73 es gud DX de Dave, W4DN.
