I received my IC-7800 Friday evening and have been spending quite a bit of
time exploring its operation.
I put it on the LAN and promptly discovered that you can connect to it using
telnet, but nothing else. It does not respond to "pings" or any of the
other common protocols such as ftp.
I scanned it with a port scanner and got quite a surprise. The POP3 tcp
port is open. POP3 is a mail pickup protocol. May be an oversight that it
responds or it may be that there is some plan to do something with mail
pickup. Sounds strange.
>From telnet there are no useful commands clearly available. There is a
password command but I've tried several obvious passwords and they do
nothing. If anyone knows (not interested in guesses) the password I'd be
interested in hearing of it!
I'm continuing to explore this.
Oh yes -- the radio is great. Already interfaced to DX4WIN, Writelog,
MMTTY, and MIXW. Have connected the fiber optic digital audio connections
to a fiber optic sound card and have that working with MMTTY and MIXW.
There is a lot to this radio and I'm sure I'll be months finding everything.
I tested it in an SO2R environment with my 756PRO and worked several
stations on both radios in this weekend's RTTY contest and the county
hunter's party.
Oh yes -- even found one tiny bug in the software. Nothing that needs to be
fixed -- just a minor bug.
I've set up a web page discussing my experiences. It is at:
