LST-325 D-DAY MEMORIAL CRUISE AMATEUR RADIO OPERATIONS
>
>
> During the last week in May, the entire month of June, and the first week in
> July, the WW2 USS LST-325 plans to be cruising along the Eastern Seaboard
> from Mobile to Boston and Gloucester, MA and Alexandria, VA. Some of you
> may recall that last Summer, LST-325 operated the ham bands while cruising
> the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. LST-325, a 327 foot long by 50 foot beam
> landing ship for tanks and troops that participated in the WW2 invasions of
> Sicily, Salerno and Normandy, will again use the USS LST-325 Amateur Radio Club call
> WW2LST/MM. It will also use a Special Event call sign W2T when in the Boston harbor and again when in the Washington, DC area.
>
> The radio room will be staffed by US Navy veterans and Navy-Marine Corps
> MARS operators Tom Pendarvis (W0MTP) and Perry Ballinger (W8AU). QSL cards
> and logbook confirmations, as in last Summer's cruise, will be handled by
> Bob Wilder, AF2HD, USAF Retired. To receive QSL confirmations, send your QSL
> info to him, together with a SASE, to: 6032 Idlemoore Court, Theodore, AL 36582-4117.
>
> The daily operating schedule will be:
>
>
> 1500 UTC 14310 +/- QRM
> 1700 UTC + 14300 MM Service net. Advise where WW2LST is operating
> 0200 UTC 7210 +/- QRM
> 0300 UTC 3910 +/- QRM
>
>
> Time permitting, also look for WW2LST/MM and W2T daily at:
> 0500 UTC 7233.5 3905 Century Club Net
> 0700 UTC 7235 HHH Net (HHH #797)
>
>
> When vintage WW2 radio AM and CW operations, or other non-routine operations
> are planned, details will be mentioned during the above regular QSO
> schedules. Every effort will be made to operate AM and CW using the TCS-12 on 80 and 40 and the TDE/RAL on 160-30
meters.WW2LST/MM will put out a call at approximately the designated times, and will stay active as long as normal radio room duties
permit (Tom and Perry also have to handle crew emails, crew radiotelephone traffic via WLO and Navy-Marine Corps MARS Afloat Nets,
Navy-Marine Corps Traffic Net check-ins, ship's communications, stand watches, and, while in port, conduct
> tours). If you don't make contact the first day you try, don't give up. They
> will be in port or cruising for approximately 45 days and will strive to
> keep the indicated schedule whenever possible. So keep trying. There will be
> ample opportunity for a QSO since they are equipped with multiple
> transceivers and also have 3 backup hams aboard (Marty AA4RM, Bill -
> K1UFO, and Cliff N4SCR) to lend a hand with evening ham band operations.
>
> For those readers with "excess inventory", LST-325 is still looking for a
> TCS-12 (remember those venerable WW2 transmitter-receiver workhorses?) power
> supply, and a 50 Amp, 12 Vdc metered power supply (non-switching). The ship is also
> looking for the filters that cover the signal spot lights so they can conduct light contacts with other ships. If you have such an
item to contribute (tax deductible), contact Bob Wilder at the address given for QSL cards.
