Hello everyone,
I've updated the section news at www.arrl.org/sections/SFL.html with
news that reached me before 7/10. There are also many photos and a Help
Wanted section.
In addition to the volunteer opportunities on the news page we need
Public Information Officers in Indian River, Okeechobee, Glades,
northern Palm Beach, and Miami-Dade counties. We also need Technical
specialists in Monroe, St. Lucie, Osceola, Glades & Hendry counties.
If you have a current appointment in the Southern Florida Section please
read the special notice on the news page.
We will have training for ECs and OESs at the Fort Pierce hamfest on
8/14. Is there any interest in ARECC/EMCOMM exams at that time?
The ARRL Board of Directors met last weekend and information about their
discussions and decision can be found in the ARRL newsletter of 7/23
(Volume 23, number 29). One of the items concerns the use of the word
ARES and the logo. I will be posting additional information about that
as soon as I have it available. This is important because we use ARES
in our brochures and press releases.
Keep your eyes on the tropics because we are approaching peak hurricane
season.
Last, but not least, please send the following letter to all newsletter
editors and webmasters. We are communicators but I can't reach everyone
without YOUR help. Remember that the ARRL is Of, By and For the radio
amateur.
Dear Southern Florida Section Amateurs,
When I visited a club meeting recently a member asked me how he could
get any newsletter published for our section. He had been talking with
folks from another section and they mentioned their section newsletter
and he didn't recall receiving anything from the Southern Florida
section. Perhaps there are members in your club with the same comments.
Please help me communicate with all of the amateurs in the SFL by
printing this letter in your newsletters, on your web pages, and by
reading it at meetings.
Many of you know that I send e-mail messages to you at least monthly and
that I write a lengthy newsletter on our section page. Some of you
don't receive these messages and it's easy to be added to the list.
First, register for the Members-Only features on the ARRL web site:
http://www.arrl.org/members/ and follow the instructions. You'll need
to supply your call sign and member number (found on your QST address
label) and a password for future visits. Second, go to
http://www.arrl.org/members-only/memdata.html?modify=1. Under the
heading -- Which of the following would you like to receive
automatically via e-mail from the ARRL -- check the fifth box which says
-- Division/section notices. You will then begin to receive monthly
news summaries, notifications that the online newsletter has been
updated, and messages about issues & events important to amateurs in
Southern Florida.
The newsletter is open to everyone at www.arrl.org/sections/SFL.html but
the e-mail notices are only sent to members. The newsletter contains
news about ARES events, Net & Traffic reports, club activities, useful
lists of web sites, articles written by other amateurs about various
aspects of ham radio, and photos of activities around the section.
Not an ARRL member? Why not consider joining? Membership also makes a
nice gift. See me at a club meeting or a hamfest and if you join the
ARRL there I can give you a free Repeater Directory. (The schedule of
hamfests and meetings that I am attending is always in the newsletter)
If you don't need a repeater directory or won't be attending a hamfest
soon please talk with your club president and treasurer because the ARRL
has program that allows affiliated clubs to keep some of the dues money
in the local treasury.
Lastly, send me information and photos of what your group is doing.
Please help the ARRL and me make your Amateur Radio experience better.
Stay safe and stay on the air.
