I am repeating this message in hopes someone can assist in the relief
efforts.

" From the WCF SM, AE4MR:
Dave is currently operating from the "Staging Area" for the Hurricane
Charley recovery efforts, and is requesting additional amateur radio
volunteers to provide communications. Currently Amateur radio is the
primary means of communications, and we have just about maxed out our
local WCF amateur radio capabilities after almost 3 days of activity.
At this time, any amateurs or CAT teams who are able to assist in the
Punta Gorda area are asked to deploy to the area.
We will need relief beginning tomorrow (Monday) morning, starting at
about 7 AM (there is a nighttime curfew). Amateurs deploying to the
area are REQUIRED to have portable (mobile) rig and mag mount antenna
available. HT's alone WILL NOT handle the job required, since repeaters
are few and far between.
If you can, please advise me if you will be deploying, how many amateurs
will be coming, and if you can't come tomorrow, if you can deploy
other days this week. We'd probably like to have you for 2 days if
possible (if longer, great!), but this will allow us to rotate folks in
and out as long as we are needed.
The staging area is in Charlotte County, I-75 Exit 170, King's Highway.
Go about 1 1/2 miles west on Kings Highway to the Winn Dixie, where
you will see the staging area. On APRS, look for AE4MR-7.
Coordinating/talk-in frequencies are 146.730 (- 600, PL 100 hz) and
145.130 (-600, no tone).
There is no phone or e-mail capability in that area, but we are in
contact with Dave and can forward/relay information if needed, although
it may take some time to get an answer.
Thanks,
Ron WD4AHZ
