Hi Tom,
For me, Wayne Green's three most noteworthy "low points" in the pages of 73
magazine were:
1. His advocacy of the "Capricorn One Moon Hoax conspiracy", asserting that
NASA never landed anybody on the moon.
2. His astonishing allegation that the late-1950's USAF SAC adoption of the
Collins SSB system, rather than the GE/Costas DSBSC system, was the result
of "improper collusion" between Art Collins and Gen. Curtis LeMay, and that
the technical superiority of SSB over DSBSC played no role in the award
decision.
3. His "Chicken Little" predictions that WARC-79 would strip the Amateur
Radio Service of most, if not all of its HF allocations. In the event, as we
know, we got 3 new bands, and an extension of the no-code frequency range
from 144 MHz down to 30 MHz.
I saw the radar-detector stuff, and agree 100% with your sentiments. Perhaps
being too far out in left field was precisely what killed 73 Magazine -
especially considering that all the "off-the-wall" stuff one could desire in
a lifetime is available for free on the Internet.
Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

I subscribed to 73 for a while. When Wayne Green did a article on which
car radar detector was best for avoiding speeding tickets I stopped
subscribing. He was too far out in left field.
