From: Section Manager: Sharon T. Brower, W4STB

September made us take a few close looks at hurricanes and fortunately the SFL
section was spared.

October begins my second year serving as your section manager. I've enjoyed
it, it's been a pleasure and I look forward to another year.

Many clubs are accepting nominations for officers this month. Elect strong
leaders. Don't complain about the way things are -- it is YOUR club, do
something besides read the newsletter and sit looking bored at a meeting.
Serve on a committee, serve as an officer, organize a social event, help teach
a licensing class, search for meeting programs and speakers. If everyone did
one thing think about how much stronger, and more fun, YOUR club can be. When
members of the Boys and Girls Club say their oath one of the lines is "e;I
believe in MY (said very loudly with emphasis) Boys and Girls club"e; -- Do you
believe in YOUR Amateur Radio Club? When your club elects new officers please
take a photo and send it to me as a JPEG file. I'll put the photos on the web
page. Oh, and please identify the folks in the photo by name and call -- with
thousands of hams in the section I have difficulty remembering everyone.

I've had several requests for handouts about amateur radio. Visit
http://www.arrl.org/FandES/ead/materials/ to download or order brochures. Or
at the end of the next hamfest ask the folks at the ARRL table for the
brochures that are left over (We don't throw them away -- we take them home and
use at our public displays and the next hamfest.)

Be sure to check www.arl.org/sections.SFL.html for hamfest flyers and info.
My schedule will be posted there along with news from various clubs and ARES
groups.

Reminders: Appointees, please submit monthly reports. Clubs, update
affiliation status (details on the web page). Please send photo files to:
[email protected].

Something New -- We have started a member survey on the section web site
(www.sflarrl.org) and it will change around the 15th of each month. The
inaugural question is about CW. Weigh in your vote by 11/15 and when the
results are tallied I'll send you an e-mail.
