Space Weather News for May 29, 2003

Two solar coronal mass ejections swept past Earth today, triggering strong
and ongoing geomagnetic storms.  Because of the timing of the impacts, the
best places to see auroras so far have been New Zealand and southern parts
of Australia.  Sky watchers elsewhere should be alert for auroras after
local nightfall.  Even mid-latitude observers might spot some Northern and
Southern Lights.  Because the moon is nearly-new, lunar glare will not
interfere with faint auroras.

Another coronal mass ejection is likely en route to Earth.  If so it would
arrive on Friday, May 30th, and extend the ongoing geomagnetic activity.
