Space Weather News for March 17, 2003

Geomagnetic activity intensified to moderate levels on March 17th,
improving the chances for Northern and Southern Lights. High-latitude sky
watchers in places like New Zealand, southern Australia, Alaska, Canada
and northern US states such as Michigan and Minnesota should remain alert
for auroras.

Earth has been inside a high-speed solar wind stream flowing from a
coronal hole on the Sun since March 14th. The coronal hole is a large one,
and solar wind gusts could continue to buffet our planet's magnetic field
for several more days.
