Hello everyone,
I read about BPL at www.qsl.net/jh5esm/PLC. All hams need to be very
concerned about this idea. If this happens we will not be able to work
weak signal HF stations. Good by QRP and weak signal DXing.
According the to Japanese report many signals will be blocked by the noise.
I went to the FCC and filed my comments. I hope you all do the same.
Here are my comments that went to the FCC for docket 03-104.
"BPL has been tried in Finland and shut down due to interference problems.
Japan looked at it and abandoned it due to interference. The problem is
that the power lines are designed to handle 60 Hz power delivery NOT high
frequency radio signals. The power lines are not balanced for radio signals
so that they will not radiate. They are not shielded so that they will not
radiate. Where I work the computers we manufacture have to pass FCC
testing so that they do not radiate and cause interference. Testing in
Japan has shown that BPL will cause interference many miles away from the
source. The FCC should not allow BPL in the United States. When the USA
was attacked many volunteer radio operators helped with communications. If
the interference level is too high, volunteers will not be able help during
an emergency, which will harm home land security in a national or local
emergency."
